The writing to be included:
Our grandfather, Daniel HaCohen Ben Yaffa Yusupov, was an unforgettable man, who with immense faith, resilience, and selflessness, created an unwithering legacy. Through his profound wisdom, he was able to lead a righteous and honorable life, and for his merits, his memory and spirit will live on for generations to come.
We will never forget how much, despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles our grandfather faced, he always loved and valued the gift of life. Although we are tremendously heartbroken over our loss, we vow to honor the person he was by gathering the strength we need to live life the way he wanted us to, full of happiness, gratitude, and positivity.
We will never forget how much our grandfather loved and appreciated each of us. He was always able to see each child as remarkably unique and he always relished being in our presence. We will so dearly miss his radiant energy and the delight he exuded when he was around us. We will miss his youthful spirit, his strong and projected voice, his daily calls, his loving and never empty handed visits to our homes, his warm embrace, his ever so powerful and meaningful blessings, his illuminating smile, his constantly dapper appearance, his incredible self discipline, his grand gestures, his thoughtful and generous gifts, his attentiveness, and overall, his unmatched presence.
Our grandfather instilled some of the most essential values in us, which will stay with us and navigate us for the rest of our lives. Personally, I, as his oldest grandchild, learned to value family and honor my roots from him, which has guided me morally throughout life. Our grandfather was raised by a single mother whom he loved and respected on a tremendous level. Even though we did not meet her, he told us many stories about her. He always praised her and remained eternally grateful to her for everything she ever did. In search of a better, more liberating life for his children and the future generation, our grandfather took it upon himself to immigrate from the Soviet Union to the United States. During this immigration process, he gave up his stature and lost his wealth, forcing him to start all over in a foreign land leading his wife, Dina Yusupov, his five children, and his mother in law. His family was always his motivating force and despite all the loss, he never gave up faith that he would succeed in building his family up once again. In the midst of starting a new life in the US, he and our grandmother tragically lost their first born son in the most untimely and devastating manner, which understandably, left them shocked, shattered, and heartbroken. This is all to say that our grandfather went through a sequence of events that would have stopped many, but he never stopped pushing forward because he did not allow himself to think about his own feelings; he wanted his family to prosper. Of course, there are many other obstacles we do not know about and many that he internalized for his family’s sake. Till his last day, he did everything he could for his family. From a young age, I vowed to myself that he and our grandmother did not suffer through so much to no avail. I vowed to help continue the legacy they created because our grandfather was able to teach me, through his actions and words, the power of family.
Our grandfather had many lessons to teach us from his own vast experiences. He taught us how to make money. He taught us the value of respecting others, making the right decisions, surrounding ourselves with good hearted people, and the virtue of helping others. Our grandfather was always there not just for us but anyone who needed him physically, financially, or emotionally. He taught us the significance of education and culture, which he had a deep appreciation for in the most sophisticated ways. He taught us not to be complacent and not to complain. He taught us how to honor our family and he showed us what it meant to be an outstanding father and grandfather. He taught us about our religion, which he loved and always honored. He loved observing each Shabbat and holiday, and he and our grandmother always had their doors open to everyone for each occasion. His God fearing nature always guided him, which is why I believe he was able to obtain so many blessings.
Because of the virtuous life that our grandfather lived and the infinite respect and love that he earned, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on and on and that his soul is resting peacefully in Gan Eden.
