The drive underscored Rep. Meng's enduring commitment and fierce advocacy to make items for babies universally available.
On the morning of Wednesday July 3rd, Beth Gavriel hosted a unique diaper giveaway organized by Congress Member Grace Meng. Last year, Meng secured $3 million in federal funding for Met Council to establish a diaper drive that piloted in Queens proving crucial to so many vulnerable individuals in our community. Rep. Meng has been passionate about opening new avenues of access to those struggling with food insecurity and has since found ways to add menstrual products, and baby items for those in need. "Access to these essentials should never depend on one’s income level or status in life," said Rep. Meng of the groundbreaking initiative. "Everybody in Queens deserves equal access to them." Rep. solicited the help of David Greenfield, CEO at Met Council and their partnership on this effort has flourished.
At the Forest Hills drive, diapers were available for babies from newborn through size 7. Anyone requiring access to diapers should reach out to the synagogue office at (718) 268-7558.
