Rabbi and Mrs. Avrohom Hecht of Project Lead hosted an incredible evening of learning, laughing, and building kosher candy sukkahs in conjunction with JCRC-NY at their Kew Gardens home. The event, held at the onset of Hoshanah Rabbah, brought together an array of elected officials who learned of the nuances that make Sukkot so special. Noam Gilboord, JCRC-NY COO and Chief Community Relations Officer, discussed the arbah minim in detail and other staff members introduced the specifications of sukkah building.
Next, the electeds paired into your teams to create candy sukkahs. NYC Council Member Seleva Brooks-Powers of Far Rockaway was joined by Alexa Arecchi of Assemblymember Andrew Hevesi's office and Supreme Court Justice Cassandra Johnson; NYS Senators Lerory Comrie and John Liu formed another team; Assemblymember David Weprin, ADA Mark Katz, Bennett W. Golub, JCRC-NY President, Aaron Cyperstein of Met Council, and Keith Felsenfeld, Esq., Legislative Counsel at NYC Council were another group; while Allison Deal, Executive Director at JCCRP, and other guests were a final group.
Keynote remarks were formerly delivered by Mark Treyger, JCRC-NY CEO, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, and Rabbi Hecht. Each guest also offered personal insights of their connections with the Jewish community. Notably, Seth Goodstein, Regional Security Director for Queens, CSI joined.
