On August 6, Orot hosted a one-of-a-kind challah bake in honor of Tu B’Av, and the evening carried a spirit unlike any other. What made this program so meaningful was its heartfelt mission: each girl who attended was paired with a sponsor—someone single, whether a man or woman—for whom she would daven as she kneaded the dough, recited brachot, and whispered personal prayers to Hashem for their future zivug.
The setting was as warm as the mission. The hall was adorned with flowers and candles, filling the room with a festive and hopeful glow. Upon arrival, each participant received a card with the name of her sponsor, a person she did not know but whose destiny she would now hold in her prayers.
Guiding the evening was Mrs. Yocheved Dekhanov, who led the group through each step of the challah preparation. Once the dough was set aside to rise, the girls gathered around tables lined with sushi, fruit, and other treats. Together, they raised their voices in loud, heartfelt brachot, with the room echoing in spirited “Amens.”
As with every Orot gathering, the event centered on more than personal prayers—it united the community in collective tefillah. Before the hafrasha, the group dedicated their words to the wellbeing of Eretz Yisrael, the safe return of hostages and soldiers, and the coming of Mashiach speedily in our days.
The program concluded with deep gratitude to the dedicated Orot challah bake team—Janet Borukhov, Viola Haimov, Rachel Yakubov, Esther Semkhayev, and Malka Aronov—who invested their hearts and energy into making the evening seamless and impactful.
