The Palace ballroom in Brooklyn was filled with warmth and kavod haTorah as MTJ–Yeshiva of Staten Island marked its 119th Anniversary Dinner. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious “Rabbeinu Moshe Feinstein Award” to Shloime and Libby Dachs, honoring their steadfast dedication to Torah, community, and the legacy of the Feinstein family.
Rav Reuven Feinstein shlit"a, Rosh HaYeshiva of MTJ and son of Rabbeinu Moshe Feinstein, ztk"l, greeted Shloime with a warm embrace during the award presentation. The moment captured the closeness and shared mission that spans generations. Shloime, a renowned performer and proud descendant of the bnei Yissaschar, has long been involved in communal chesed and Torah projects.
Completing A Torah That Began With Rav Dovid Feinstein, zt"l
The award recognized Shloime’s tireless work in completing the sefer Torah initiated by Rav Dovid Feinstein, zt"l, shortly before his passing. Rav Dovid began the Torah as a tribute to Rabbi Meir Zlotowitz, zt"l, whose leadership at ArtScroll/Mesorah transformed the accessibility of Torah learning across the world.
Following Rav Dovid’s passing, the responsibility to carry the project forward fell to Shloime. His dedication — coordinating scribes, supporters, and final details — was described by MTJ leadership as “Herculean.” The completion of this Torah stands as a testament to kavod haTorah and the deep bonds between the Feinstein and Zlotowitz families.
A Night Steeped in Mesorah
Among those greeting the Dachs family was Dr. Paul Brody, a longtime supporter whose connection to MTJ runs deep — his maternal uncle, Rabbi Abraham I. Brown, zt"l, was part of Rav Moshe Feinstein’s first semichah class. Dr. Brody and his wife Drora have hosted receptions for Rav Reuven and MTJ in their Great Neck home, strengthening the yeshivah’s ties to the broader Jewish community underscoring the powerful multigenerational relationships that continue to sustain MTJ.
The evening as a whole served as a moving tribute to the Feinstein legacy, and to the supporters who ensure MTJ’s vibrancy for generations to come.
