On Wednesday, November 12, the Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ) warmly welcomed more than 300 seventh-grade girls from seven yeshivot for its annual Yom Yachad. Students from Barkai, JFS, Hillel, Magen David, HALB, and the Yeshiva of Flatbush joined their peers at YCQ for a morning centered on achdut, tzedakah, and meaningful celebration.
The program opened with greetings from Principal Rabbi Mark Landsman, followed by inspiring words from Morah Mashie Kopelowitz, Director of Judaic Studies. She then introduced the guest speaker, Yakir Wachstock, founder of the Boots for Israel organization. Mr. Wachstock shared the origins of the initiative and emphasized the ongoing importance of supporting its mission. After his remarks, representatives from each school presented him with the funds their respective yeshivot had raised.
The atmosphere then shifted to creative expression with an energetic dance showcase, giving each school the opportunity to present its unique spirit and talent. Dressed in coordinated costumes, the girls performed choreographed routines to uplifting Jewish music, delighting the crowd and cheering one another on. Every group enjoyed its moment to shine.
Following the performances, the students joined together in song—uniting their voices for “Acheinu” and other meaningful selections—to conclude the formal program on a powerful note of togetherness. A delicious joint lunch provided the perfect setting for students from across the different communities and neighborhoods to mingle, bond, and form new friendships beyond the day’s activities.
The event concluded in the early afternoon, leaving participants with a renewed sense of connection, purpose, and pride in coming together as one Klal Yisrael.
Special thanks to Morah Tali Brody for choreographing and leading the YCQ dancers, to Mr. Jacob Grossman, YCQ’s Director of Junior High School Student Activities, for his outstanding coordination, and to all participating schools for their partnership and support.
