Children participating in Chazaq’s Shaping Lives programs across more than 15 locations recently took part in a meaningful hands-on project centered on the Beit HaMikdash. Through creativity, color, and guided discussion, students gained a clearer appreciation of the place that has stood at the center of Jewish longing for generations.
The children created vibrant images depicting the Beit HaMikdash, carefully filling each design with striking colors and intricate details. As the completed projects emerged, the students were able to connect ideas they had learned with something tangible that they could see, hold, and proudly bring home.
The activity was designed to be far more than an ordinary arts-and-crafts project. Instructors used the experience as an opportunity to explain the holiness of the Beit HaMikdash, the central role it played in the lives of Bnei Yisrael, and why Jews continue to mourn its destruction and pray for its rebuilding.
For children, subjects connected to the Beit HaMikdash can sometimes feel distant or difficult to visualize. Creating their own depictions allowed the students to engage their imaginations while forming a more personal connection to what they were learning. Every arch, column, doorway, and colorful detail became part of a larger lesson about Jewish history, identity, and hope.
The projects also encouraged meaningful conversations about what the Beit HaMikdash represented: a place of holiness, unity, prayer, and closeness to Hashem. Rather than learning the subject only through words, the children experienced it through an activity that made the lesson memorable and accessible.
Smiling students proudly displayed their completed artwork at Shaping Lives locations throughout the community. Some worked alongside classmates around activity tables, while others posed with siblings and friends, each holding a unique and colorful interpretation of the same sacred structure.
