Last year, seniors from Yeshiva Shaarei Zion Girls High School brought four suitcases filled with toys to Hadassah Hospital’s oncology ward in Israel. Every toy was distributed to children battling cancer, offering moments of happiness amid difficult treatments.

With this year’s senior Israel trip approaching, students are preparing three chessed initiatives: collecting warm black beanies for Israeli soldiers, handcrafting friendship bracelets to sell in support of soldiers, and organizing another toy drive for children receiving cancer treatment in Israeli hospitals.

The projects bring classmates together in a shared commitment to Eretz Yisrael. As students make bracelets, collect donations, and encourage one another to participate, they put achdut and areyvut—the responsibility Jews share for one another—into practice.

For the seniors, the opportunity to personally deliver the collected gifts will give their efforts a lasting dimension, connecting the chessed undertaken at school with the people they hope to help in Israel.
