Approximately 70 Bukharian bachurim participating in Ohr Natan’s Summer Kollel traveled from Queens to Lakewood for a day of Torah learning, meetings with leading rabbanim, and recreation.
Held from July 15 through August 6 at Ohr Natan in Rego Park, the seventh annual program offers boys ages 16 and older a structured summer centered on Torah learning, friendship, and growth in Yiras Shamayim. The daily schedule runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes Gemara b’iyun, shiurim, mussar, and bekiut. Participants receive a $25 daily stipend and free lunch. The program also includes organized trips, rides upon request, and a grand Shabbaton.
During the Lakewood trip, the group heard a shmuess from Rav Gershon Ribner, followed by divrei chizuk from Rav Yaakov Ephraim Forchheimer, a leading posek at Beth Medrash Govoha. The boys also met with HaRav Dovid Schustal, Rosh HaYeshivah of BMG, gaining a closer look at life inside one of the country’s foremost centers of Torah learning.
The group shared lunch and chavrusa-style learning with Bukharian avreichim studying at BMG. For the younger participants, learning alongside members of their own community who had continued into full-time Torah study provided a tangible model for their own aspirations.
The day concluded at Sky Zone, where the boys enjoyed trampolines, obstacle courses, foam pits, and dodgeball after a full day of travel and learning.
“This is Ohr Natan’s seventh annual Summer Kollel, with 70 Bukharian boys learning and having a great time throughout the month of Av,” proudly declared Rabbi Natan Kaziev who heads the program.
